Web
based applications only require a web browser, they can be accessed
from anywhere, one user is not tied to one machine and upgrades
are easy as they do not need to be deployed to each user.
How
it works
A
User (Client) sends an information request from a web browser.
This could be using a PC based browser or some other means such
as a WAP/I-Mode phone or PDA.
The information request is sent to a web server via the relevant
network medium, this could be the Internet, an Intranet or an
extranet.
The
Application server retrieves information from its data sources
and performs the necessary calculations to fulfil the request.
These could be databases and/or legacy systems. The result is
then sent back to the requesting client.
Users can be your customers, your staff or both depending upon
the application.
